There's No Place Like Heinz!

I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. Then again, maybe we are. Because the Wizard of Oz has retired and come out from behind his curtain. He is now running a diner somewhere in the Midwest. Kansas, possibly.

He was from there, before that rogue hot-air balloon landed him in the Emerald City. In the movie, he went back to Kansas the same way - leaving Dorothy to get home using the little-known transportation method, shoe-clicking.

Dorothy must have told the Wizard that folks like to eat at diners; and when they do, they enjoy home cooking. The Wizard asked why they didn't just eat at home if they enjoyed home cooking. Dorothy said, what did he know, he had minions bringing him meals back in the Emerald City and had no idea what it was like for her and Auntie Em, whipping up meal after meal.

So now he's running the Emerald City Diner and pushing Heinz soups on everyone. I guess the kitchen minions didn't fit in the hot air balloon and this is the best he can do.

Looks like he's having a mighty fine time of it, too. This ad ran in 1940, the year after the movie The Wizard of Oz came out. It's sort of like a one-page sequel, isn't it? Dorothy is really glamming it up now, I see. And just to go eat a bowl of canned soup! She also seems to have met a Leading Man Type from Central Casting. Or else she gave one of the farm hands a startling, total makeover - possibly the one who became the Tin Man. He loves canned soup - or anything in a can, really.
